So despite my distaste for interview etiquette, I have some excellent news. I’ve been offered an internship at Hill’s Pet Nutrition – one of the largest and best employers here in Topeka! Not only is the pay a very significant increase, but it will afford me more time to spend with Sera after she’s born! I’m SO excited. This is truly an amazing opportunity for me and for us as a family. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

In my experiences while looking for jobs, I’ve always felt the whole process was a bit ridiculous but as I’ve read more tips on interviewing, I have realized that the ridiculousness of it all goes far beyond my imagining. Why in the world does it matter if I wear a jacket to an interview or not? Does this in some way reflect my ability to fill out paperwork properly or effectively manage my time? Why does it matter if I wear the brown eye shadow or the blue eye shadow? If I wear this necklace, will they think I might actually have a personality and not give me the job? Now, while I don’t actually believe that interviewing naked would be any more beneficial, considering the fact that then you would be judged by the little mole on your left shoulder or the little bit of extra flab you have around your midsection, I think the whole “dress code for interviews” thing is beyond superficial and ridiculous. In fact, why don’t we all just sit in a dark room, on the opposite sides of two way mirrors, and answer questions that way? The whole thing is stupid.

Okay, okay, I am finally FINALLY posting a belly pic. Here I am, tonight, at just under 31 weeks (30 weeks 5 days):

Also, John is working on a mobile to hang over the baby’s crib tonight so I’m extra excited about that. I’ll post pictures when it’s done and hanging!

This weekend we (John, Liz, and I) all went to the Irish Festival in Kansas City. It was a fun time, complete with green fountains, good music, beer (none for me!), and good food. I bought Sera a little wood box that is engraved with a big celtic knot for her jewelry when she gets older. Liz and I also bought 2 CDs from one of the bands that played: Scythian.

John shared this with me today and it’s the first coherent argument I’ve heard made regarding the health care reform issue.
